Psychoeducational & Psychological Assessment

We specialize in dual-diagnosis and differential diagnosis for psychological concerns such as: ADHD, behaviour problems, anxiety, and learning. We assess for learning disabilities (e.g., reading/dyslexia, writing/dysgraphia, math/dyscalculia), intellectual strengths and areas of support, ADHD, Autism, mental health concerns, and personality features that contribute to difficulties a client is having in their daily life.

Counselling/ Therapy

Our counselling services focus on empowerment and hope, drawing from positive psychology and various therapeutic approaches, including solution-focused, CBT, T.E.A.M., psychodynamic, and play based counselling. We incorporate client-centred, family systems, and attachment principles and offer specialized support for individuals with learning differences, ADHD, Autism, or other complex behaviour concerns.

Learning & Behaviour Interventions

Neurodiversity Consulting & Individualized Learning Supports for All Ages.

  • Neurodiversity Consulting supports clients with various aspects of navigating their life and circumstances to empower growth and change.

  • Individualized Learning Specialist sessions are similar to tutoring but are designed specifically for and with exceptional learning needs in mind.

  • Behaviour Intervention sessions take an applied science of human behaviour approach to improving problematic behaviours or training and developing adaptive behaviours.

We believe in fostering our clients strengths to help each person grow to their greatest potential.

INSURANCE COVERAGE

DIRECT BILLING

We make sure all our clients feel welcome, safe, and taken care of. During your first visit, a psychologist will interview you about your main concerns and take some history information. By the end of the first appointment, you and your psychologist will have decided on a plan of action, with specific next steps and strategies for how to move forward.

Note: Children under age 12 are not recommended to attend the first interview.

For your first assessment appointment:

If you are booked for a psychoeducational assessment, please bring any report cards and previous assessment reports (e.g., speech and language, occupational therapy, psychological). This information is to help us understand your concern.

Typically, you will be provided with a suggested plan, cost estimate, and options of how to proceed, at the first appointment. However, the process of accessing support is dynamic and changes somewhat depending on each individual case. We will break it down for you and our goal is for you to leave our office feeling like you have a clear plan.

Many insurance companies provide coverage for psychological services. Coverage typically includes: a specified dollar amount or specified number of hours for psychological services for each family member.

We offer Direct Billing to several insurance providers through E-Claims Telus Health and BlueCross Direct Billing. Please contact our intake clinician for more details. Check here to see if your provider allows direct billing for our services.

CLIENTS OFTEN MOVE FROM ONE SERVICE TO ANOTHER.

WE OFFER ASSESSMENT & TREATMENT UNDER ONE ROOF.

OUR INTAKE CLINICIANS CAN HELP DETERMINE WHAT SERVICE MIGHT BE BEST TO START WITH.

You are never obligated to continue services at any stage. This is true of all psychological services. Even when you consent to a process, you always have the right to withdraw consent. Some ethical guidelines apply here and will be discussed with you at your first appointment.

Gursimran Dhaliwal

Receptionist

Hi! My name is Gursimran, and I am a fourth year BA Psychology student at the University of Alberta. I am aiming to become a clinical psychologist and pursue further education in forensics psychology in the future to continue my career. I look forward to beginning my journey in a masters of counselling degree in 2024.

Currently, I am one of the admin team members here at Little Oaks. I will be interacting with a lot of our clients, while providing assistance with bookings, scheduling, and organizing a well structured day for our clinician team. I am very excited and proud to be a part of the Little Oaks team because this is the first step towards my mission. I anticipate to learn from all the great mentors at LOP; especially since my goal is to work with individuals of all ages, and that is exactly what is offered here.
